Question: What’s missing
from research on composition?
Answer: The students’
perspective. We need to give students the opportunity to respond to our
instruction in composition, to show what it meant to them.
Comment: Notes in margins of textbooks, responses to
writing assignments, thoughts on the processes used in completing the
assignments, what they have learned from the teachers’ comments on papers, etc.
And we need to gather this information as well as examples of student writing.
